ARCO Feria 2015

Standard

This past weekend Madrileños flocked to see the latest in contemporary art at the Arco Feria. The four-day exhibition was inaugurated by the presence of the Spanish Monarchs and deemed by all press I have gotten ahold of a triumphant success. I visited the exhibition Saturday afternoon and after 6 hours believe I saw every piece of art exhibited. However, when there are so many pieces displayed, there is always a possibility that I missed something. I have included a sample below of some of my favorite images from the exhibition. I have tried to capture the art, but also the public’s interaction with the various pieces. It would be impossible with such crowds not to include others in my images, and as I have mentioned in earlier posts, I am just as intrigued by our means of looking at art as the art itself.

If anything can be gleaned from this year’s exhibit it is that graphical representations and collage and mixed media ensembles are in and abstract painting is out. Of course, all of this is subject to change, we have only begun March and 2015 is looks to be a prolific year. Additionally, I was particularly pleased to see some of the artists from past exhibitions such as Susy Gómez and Carlos Aires appear again. Moreover, it was a pleasure to see a few of works by the great masters, such as Picasso and Warhol, up close in person. Enjoy my virtual route through the fair!

“The portraits born into it are from a series of portraits taken during the WPA period of people who had been born into slavery. Their portraits on vintage money bags, bearing inscriptions, such as return to, Trustmark, or Bancorp South, are powerful hines to slave narrative and slave history, and the use of money bags refers to these humans as a commodity”. “I dreamed that some apostase were gathering famous paintings from a storm sea. The assemblage “Bicycle Wheel” by Marcel Duchamp, was being used as the helm for the ship where the fishermen were sailing, that day, the fishing was so abundant that five museums of the world could be filled”.
